About The Hub

Welcome to the Hub blog, part of the Hub - the world’s first global site dedicated to human rights video and action.

The Hub is designed to be a global platform for individuals, groups, networks and organizations to upload and share video, audio and photos related to violations of human rights.  Through the Hub, organizations, networks and groups around the world are able to bring their human rights stories and campaigns to global attention.

The Hub has three main areas: See It – where you can view and interact with human rights media uploaded by the Hub community; Share It – where you can create and join groups or discussions that coincide with your interests or expertise; and Take Action – where you can get involved to make a difference, and activate other users around your campaigns and events.

The Hub is a project of WITNESS. WITNESS uses video and online technologies to open the eyes of the world to human rights violations. We empower people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change. WITNESS is based in Brooklyn, New York in the USA.

Who can join the Hub?

Anyone with a valid email address can join the Hub. Users of the Hub include human rights workers, students, academics, filmmakers, journalists, activists, teachers and concerned citizens worldwide.

Technology

The Hub is built by Civic Actions LLC using the open source system Drupal and integrates tools enabling users to:

  • Upload content online and (in a forthcoming release of the Hub) from mobile devices
  • Interact with and share content
  • Build communities of interest and practice
  • Engage and activate other users in advocacy and online and offline organizing
